Issue 26 – October 7, 2009
After 25 consecutive weeks I missed posting an issue of Tiny House Living last week. I was busy finishing up my first Tiny Prefab ebook. I’ll try to plan ahead better next time

Tiny Prefab – eBook & Plans
I was so busy finishing up my first tiny house ebook last week I failed to publish Tiny House Living. Sorry about that. The ebook is a 65 page downloadable PDF that includes the plans ans assembly instructions for a panelized prefab building system a do-it-yourselfer could build with common building materials. It’s $27 and includes free updates.
Portland Tiny Homes
Tammy Strobel from RowdyKittens just did a guest post on Tiny House Blog about these great little houses in Portland. They were built by Jeff and Brad who make an extra effort to reuse and recycle while creating these tiny habitable works of art.
Urban Rancher
This is a great story of the Urban Rancher, a freelance designer in Los Angeles who has bought some property in the mountains outside of town and is building a mortgage free tiny house. Construction has just begun but first he’s got to visualize some design options. This is definitely a project to follow.
Retro Trailers
I’ve really enjoyed some of the recent retro travel trailer posts on Tiny House Blog. These teardrop trailer designs are really incredible and they pack a lot of function into so little space.
Shed Design Competition Heating Up
This design competition ends October 31st… and I thought I had missed the entry deadline. It looks like the competition is steep so I better pull some of my most creative ideas out if I’m going to have a chance at winning. You can enter too… the more the merrier. Read more at Shedworking.
A Guide To Buying Energy Efficient Windows
One of my favorite non-tiny house blogs is The Good Human. This article on windows was a guest post by Nan Fischer a Green Real Estate expert who lives in Taos, New Mexico. The Good Human is definitely a blog to bookmark.
Derek Diedricksen’s Vermont Cabin
I was recently contacted by a fellow named Derek Alexander Diedricksen who is in the process of writing a book called, “Humble Homes, Simple Shacks, Cozy Cottages, Ramshackle Retreats, Funky Forts, and Anything Else We Could Squeeze in Here.” It turns out that Derek is quite a scavenger-builder himself.
Sheds on Inhabitat
It’s always exciting to see the really big mainstream blogs, like Inhabitat, pick up on aspects of the small house movement. This time they posted an article on Sheds and their wide range of uses.
