The Field Lab – Update
John Wells at The Field Lab has been making slow steady progress on his greenhouse. His home is a tiny 8′ by 16′ tiny house specially built to survive the extreme heat the southwestern Texas desert can deliver. His greenhouse will be made from shipping containers with a roof of welded steel trusses. He’s doing all the work himself including raising the giant handmade steel trusses into place. Be sure to watch this video on YouTube that shows how he lifts one of the trusses into place.
Adobe Casita
One of my readers on Tiny House Design sent me this very nicely done adobe casita near Abiquiu, New Mexico. Three months out of the year Samuel Grey lives in this tiny house. In a few years this will be his full-time home.
Shed Design Competition
Secrets of Shed Building is having a garden shed/office/studio design competition. The entry deadline is midnight GMT on October 31, 2009. The winner takes home an Apple iPod nano. For those of you not entering it should still be interesting to see the designs that come out from the tiny house and shedworking community.
Baumraum’s Treehouse
Baumraum builds another incredible treehouse. While this one is featured on Inhabitots it could easily be a treehouse for adults too.
Tiny House Recording Studio
Erick in Ohio is building a 20-foot tiny house that will serve as his home and recording studio. It’s a custom design and he’s doing a lot of the work himself, including lifting the framed walls up into place.
The Great Escape
It’s always exciting and inspiring to find someone else taking the leap into simple living. James and Kristen have begun to build custom designed tiny house on a trailer. Their blog contains many details on their research and the challenges they’ve been facing along the way.
Cottage in a Day
While these professionally manufactured tiny houses are a little on the expensive side they are completely turn-key and can be set-up in a day. They come in a variety of sizes and are build with many green building materials.
