Steven’s Summer Project and Open House
I’ve been following Steven’s summer project closely and he’s been posting more and more detail photos of his unique tiny house. Pictured here is a skylight. He’s also just installed a custom built shower pan and composting toilet.
If you’re anywhere near Audubon, Iowa and don’t have plans for the weekend be sure to stop by Steven’s tiny open house to get a first hand look at his tiny house. Learn more about his open house on Sunday August 23, 2009.
Blast from the Recent Past
It’s always nice to have a blast from the past for gaining perspective. A reader of Tiny House Blog passed this onto Kent the other day reminding us that tiny houses are not really a new idea at all. Well I guess reading Walden again will tell you that too… in any event these house trucks are really great to see and read about.
10 Cool Treehouses
I stumbled on a new blog this week called TheCoolist and found an article on 10 cool treehouses.
Shipping Container House
Here’s a very nice little house just outside Bangkok, Thailand that was build from two 20-foot shipping containers. It was designed to withstand the hot humid climate and features a roof that floats above the main living area keeping the heat off the house. I’ve seen more and more homes use this simple trick to keep cool in hot weather.
Jay Shafer on the CBS News
It’s always exciting to see someone from the small house movement in the main stream media. Here’s an example of CBS News telling the story of Jay’s cross country trip this past summer.
Newton Wells and his Tiny House
A fellow named Newton Wells is building a 425 square-foot house in Vermont. He’s sold his big house and is nearing completion of this simple home. Read the about Newton’s downsizing story and watch this tiny house news video.
Paperhouse
Actually it’s made out of brass and wood but it sells… well… newspapers and magazines. It’s a newspaper kiosk I spotted this on shedworking.co.uk and really liked the unusual design.
Tiny House Design Web Host Move
You might have noticed that my biggest blog, Tiny House Design, has been having some trouble the last few days and that I’ve not been posting much. The back-story is that my web host has been charging me overage charges, the price of success I guess. So I’ve been busy trying to setup a new server and had a bit of trouble. It should be back to full strength in a day or two.
