Small Living Journal – Issue 7
In this issue of the Small Living Journal we look at how more than one person can live in a tiny house. Most of the press covers the single person living in the tiny portable home. Life for most people involves more than one person, so in this issue we tackle how multiple people can live in a tiny space.
John Wells
Last week one of the top stories in Tiny House Living was about a tiny house in southwest Texas owned by John Wells. Over the past week I’ve been diving into John’s online content which includes a lot of great how-to information on rain water collection and low-cost cooling. While looking through his growing collection of YouTube videos and photos I spotted this video which really summarized his adventure in a poem. It made me think about how much I focus on the houses and how the people are really much better at telling the story. If simple living is a dream or passion for you this is a must watch video.
When you’re done watching the video dig into all the great stuff he’s putting online.
High Life TreeHouses
Read about High Life TreeHouses at Shedworking. As the name suggests these are some very nice tree houses. The London based company that makes them also makes some ground based tiny houses too, albeit mostly for kids. Be sure to take a look at the Hobbit Holes.
Unusual Cube
This is a drawing of a tiny house currently under construction. Instead of normal walls this builder is constructing six box-like structures and connecting them in an unusual cube shape. It might not be the most efficient way to enclose space but it is one of the more interesting designs I’ve seen in a while.
Jay in New York
Well Jay Shafer has completed his journey across America pulling the Tumbleweed tiny house. I haven’t heard his final report yet but I bet it was quite an adventure. Kent at Tiny House Blog kept close tabs on his progress and I bet he will have the story in the next week or so. In the mean time read about Jay’s final stop.
Ambleside – Bridge House
Here’s a historic tiny house that is over 300 years old and build on top of a bridge. It was originally an apple store, no not the kind that specialized in the rare but user friendly stone macintosh abacus, but the crunchy sweet kind that grow on trees and keep doctors away. Today its a bit of a tourist attraction and used as an information center in Ambleside which is located in the County of Cumbria in the UK. Read more about this tiny house. You might also find this post on houses build on bridges interesting.
Small Style at Dwell on Design 2009
Be sure to read this round-up of four great tiny houses that will be at Dwell on Design; which will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from Friday, June 26, 2009, through Sunday, June 28.
