Earthbag & Pallet Emergency Shelter
Dr. Owen Geiger, the Director of the Geiger Research Institute of Sustainable Building, posted one of my design concepts on his Earthbag Building Blog. I had whipped this design up for a 1 Hour Design Challenge at Core77, in exactly 1-hour using Google SketchUp. Thanks for all the earthbag inspiration Owen!
Enter & Win – Free Drawing for Tiny Prefab ebook
Visit Tiny House Design and enter to win a free copy of my ebook, Tiny Prefab. I’ll be picking a winner this coming Sunday at midnight (PST). All you need to do to enter is post a comment on that announcement post and describe the type of tiny (or small) house you’d like to build someday. You should read some of the comments there now… great ideas.
Shed Design Competition Heating Up
This design competition ends October 31st… and I thought I had missed the entry deadline. It looks like the competition is steep so I better pull some of my most creative ideas out if I’m going to have a chance at winning. You can enter too… the more the merrier. Read more at Shedworking.
Shed Design Competition
Secrets of Shed Building is having a garden shed/office/studio design competition. The entry deadline is midnight GMT on October 31, 2009. The winner takes home an Apple iPod nano. For those of you not entering it should still be interesting to see the designs that come out from the tiny house and shedworking community.
ReBurbia – Suburbian Design Competition
This coming Friday (July 31st, 2009) is the deadline for design entries to ReBurbia, a design competition sponsored by Dwell and Inhabitat. Here’s a little blurb from their website:
Calling all future-forward architects, urban designers, renegade planners and imaginative engineers: Show us how you would re-invent the suburbs! What would a McMansion become if it weren’t a single-family dwelling? How could a vacant big box store be retrofitted for agriculture? What sort of design solutions can you come up with to facilitate car-free mobility, ‘burb-grown food, and local, renewable energy generation?
This should be another very interesting project to watch. Learn more at the ReBurbia website.
Small Cool Coolest 2009
The folks at Apartment Therapy have a content running right now on the coolest small house designs for simple living. They consider small up to 1,200 square feet but there still are a few cool tiny houses like Jay Shafer’s house. Be sure to vote at Apartment Therapy. I first spotted this on This Tiny House.
