Jay Shafer Announces the Four Lights Tiny House Company

Jay Shafer brought tiny houses into the public eye when he appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show (original video here) in February of 2007. At the time the idea of living simply in a small space was refreshing approach that inspired many to follow. Jay’s Tumbleweed Tiny House Company thrived over the following years as more and more people discovered tiny houses.

But now Jay has chosen to resign from his position at Tumbleweed to start a new endeavor - Four Lights Tiny House Company.

New Tiny House in Winhall, Vermont

A nice Tumbleweed EPU recently completed in Vermont.

“This month my tiny house was completed after a few years of preparation and three months of building. Josh Wengard, a terrific carpenter of Re-Design Construction in Londenderry, Vermont did most everything. I sealed the cedar siding, sanded the maple kitchen counter and generally got in the way. The house was built using the Epu plans from the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, though some modifications were made. The final cost was just under $32,000 for building.”

“Many people have asked how do you anchor a Tiny House to the trailer so that it doesnt come off while moving down the road or get lifted off during a storm. The four front blots will help with any forces the could cause the house to slide off and the eight tie downs will prevent from any lifting forces they also have a really high sheer sideways strength.”

“Currently we our living in the house full time. It is amazing! I love it so much! I cant believe the difference in my life now. I for one have so much more time. It is so relaxing. I am amazed how great everything has worked out! Nothing has failed. I dont feel so crowed or cramped. I do think I need to downsize more of my clothes.”

“DC is preparing for Hurricane Sandy: the metro system has closed, federal government has shut down, and sandbags were put in all around my neighborhood. While I’m a bit worried about the fate of our little houses, I do feel assured knowing that my house and trailer already survived 60mph+ winds during a storm earlier this summer that left us without power on the lot for five days. Moreover, the house is much more weatherproof now than it was a few weeks ago.”
